Foster

An animal that is not ready to be made available for adoption due to their age, size, health or need for socialization may be placed into the Foster Care Program. Spartanburg Humane Society staff will match qualified foster homes with the pet’s special requirements or needs. Animals needing medical care are treated at the Spartanburg Humane Society at our cost.

Our foster families can be old or young, single or married with children, but they all have one thing in common – they have a place where homeless animals are welcome. Most of all, they have the ability to love an animal with all their hearts, care for them, teach/train them and prepare them to live forever as someone’s beloved companion.

When you foster with us we provide ALL medical care for the animal. We are also to able provide  whatever supplies you may need: food, litter boxes, leashes, collars, wire dog crates for when you leave the house. Of course anything you choose to purchase for your foster, can also be counted as in kind tax deductible donation.

Currently our foster program is geared towards underweight or sick kittens and puppies. We are currently working on expanding our foster program to include adult dogs who are our long timers here, but we are not quite ready to debut that program just yet.

Our foster program is geared towards animals under our care in our facility. We DO NOT find foster homes for already owned pets. Additionally, we can only find foster homes for animals surrendered under our care into our facility for more information on surrendering an animal you can call 864.583.4805 ext. 116.

If you have any questions about fostering please call our Foster Coordinator, Melanie Burt at 864-583-4805 ext. 118 or by email at melanieb@spartanburghumane.org.
